2. “We urgently request the international community and the United Nations to assist in the immediate release of the State Counselor Daw #AungSanSuuKyi, President U Win Myint, NLD leaders and activists who have been and continue to be arbitrarily detained,” the statement reads.
3. It continues: “We also would like to request the international community and the United Nations to not legitimize or cooperate with the perpetrators of the coup who have chosen to neglect the genuine desire of the Myanmar citizens.”
4. The statement also accuses the coup makers of acting “in discordance with the current Constitution and existing laws.”
5. It goes on to call on the international community “to take actions in every possible ways for us to certify the 2020 election results that reflect Myanmar people’s genuine desire.”
6. “Having gone through several decades of dictatorship where human rights were violated and there was a lack of freedom, Myanmar finally transitioned to a democratic governance in 2010 where its citizens started enjoying certain rights,” it continues.
7. “After the 2015 General Election, the government led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi brought about political, economic and social changes and improved fundamental freedom, human rights and living standards.”
8. “While there are rays of hope for a better future, a group of military leaders brazenly violated the Constitution and Myanmar people are in risk of being governed by weapons, which will end the democracy, freedom and human rights.”
10. The statement comes a day after the United Nations Security Council made a resolution expressing “deep concern" at the coup and the arbitrary detention of members of the government. https://t.co/wvXnvQf9kX #UNSC #MyanmarCoup pic.twitter.com/VFNo34RS1P
