Director Kaouther Ben Hania and the cast of "The Voice of Hind Rajab" were joined by Hollywood actors and producers Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara at the film's world premiere on Wednesday, September 3. The event took place at the prestigious Palazzo Del Cinema in Venice.
Actor Motaz Malhees, who plays a telephone help line operator named Omar A. Alqam in the film, brought an enlarged photo of the young Hind Rajab to the red carpet. The atmosphere was somber and respectful as onlookers applauded in appreciation.
The film is based on the true story of telephone operators from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society who spent hours trying to reassure a trapped six-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab, who pleaded for rescue from a car under siege in Gaza. At the time, her aunt, uncle, and three cousins had already been killed.
