วันเปิดประชุมสภาของเนเธอร์แลนด์ หรือ Prince’s Day ปีนี้อาจดูแตกต่างและตึงเครียดกว่าปีก่อนๆมาก ซึ่งหลังจากผ่านไปสองปีจากการแพร่ระบาดหนักของเชื้อไวรัสโคโรน่า พิธีเปิดประชุมสภาได้กลับมาจัดแบบยิ่งใหญ่อีกครั้งในกรุงเฮก ที่โรงละครหลวง จากเดิมจัดขึ้นที่หอแห่งอัศวินเป็นประจำทุกปี แต่เนื่องจากยังอยู่ในการบูรณะซ่อมแซมจึงย้ายสถานที่เป็นการชั่วคราว อย่างไรก็ตาม ปีนี้ได้มีประชาชนชุมนุมประท้วงอันไม่สามารถเลี่ยงเส้นทางเสด็จพระราชดำเนินได้ตามท้องถนนในเมืองหลวงของเนเธอร์แลนด์
กลุ่มผู้ชุมนุมประท้วงได้ส่งเสียงโห่ตะโกนด่าทอ “คนทรยศ” พร้อมชูนิ้วกลางถวายสมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีวิลเลม-อเล็กซานเดอร์, สมเด็จพระราชินีแม็กซิม่า และเจ้าฟ้าหญิงคาธาริน่า-อมาเลีย เจ้าหญิงแห่งออเรนจ์ มกุฎราชกุมารี ทั้งตามเส้นทางเสด็จพระราชดำเนิน และหน้าบริเวณพระราชวังนอร์ดไอเดอ ขณะเสด็จออก ณ สีหบัญชร
นอกจากนี้ ผู้ชุมนุมยังแสดงเชิงสัญลักษณ์ด้วยการชูธงชาติกลับด้าน ทั้งนี้ ฮานส์ ยาคอบ ผู้สื่อข่าวประจำราชสำนักได้ให้ข้อมูลจากเหตุการณ์ว่า เนื่องด้วยประชาชนประท้วงและไม่สนับสนุนนโยบายการบริหารของนายกรัฐมนตรีมาร์ก รุทเทอ และมีประชาชนที่แสดงความชื่นชมยินดีต่อราชสำนักน้อยกว่าปีก่อนๆมาก โดยผลจากการประท้วงนี้ มีรายงานว่า เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจได้จับกุมผู้ชุมนุมที่ก่อการเกินกว่าเหตุจำนวน 5 คน ในฐานกล่าวสบถอาฆาตมาดร้ายพระราชวงศ์ และได้ทำการยึดรถแทรกเตอร์จำนวน 6 คัน ฐานละเมิดกฎหมายห้ามนำรถใหญ่เข้ามาในเขตเมืองเก่าด้วย
ศาสตราจารย์แจ็คเกอลีน ฟาน สเตเลเลนเบิร์ก ศาสตราจารย์ประจำภาควิชานวัตกรรมสังคมจากมหาวิทยาลัยเสรีแห่งอัมส์เตอร์ดัม กล่าวว่า นี่ไม่ใช่การประท้วงธรรมดาในวันเปิดประชุมสภาครั้งนี้ ปกติมักจะมีประชาชนแต่งชุดสีส้มรวมตัวกันตามท้องถนนเพื่อชื่นชมพระบารมีและถวายพระพร อย่างไรก็ตาม ก็ไม่ได้ตกใจหรือกังวลอะไรจากการประท้วงนี้ เนื่องจากแสดงให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ของประชาชนกับรัฐบาลไม่ได้เป็นไปด้วยความราบรื่น จึงมีการส่งเสียงเรียกร้องในแบบของพวกเขาในวันใหญ่นี้

สมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีวิลเลม-อเล็กซานเดอร์ มีพระราชดำรัสเปิดประชุมสภาใจความตอนหนึ่งว่า “นับเป็นความผิดปกติในช่วงที่เศรษฐกิจกำลังเติบโตและการว่างงานต่ำ ประชาชนหลายครัวเรือนยังต้องเผชิญกับวิกฤตค่าครองชีพและความยากจนที่เพิ่มขึ้น และนับเป็นความผิดปกติที่ผู้คนในประเทศเสรีเช่นอย่างดินแดนเราไม่สามารถแสดงความคิดเห็นได้อย่างเต็มที่ เพราะกลัวการตอบโต้หรือการขู่เข็ญ และเป็นเรื่องที่น่ากังวลว่า ผู้คนกำลังสูญเสียศรัทธาต่อความสามารถในการแก้ปัญหาของรัฐบาลและการเมือง ในระบอบประชาธิปไตยที่เติบโตเต็มที่อย่างดินแดนเรา”

Dutch Prince's Day (or Prinsjesdag) was different from the previous years. After two corona years, guests were again welcome at the ceremony this time, due to the renovation of the Hall of Knights, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander delivered the Speech from the Throne from the Royal Theatre in The Hague this year. There were also demonstrations from various groups in this Dutch administrative and royal capital.
Boos and protesters who raised their middle fingers and shout "traitor" towards King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange. The demonstration at the driving tour and the balcony scene was unique for Prinsjesdag.
Yet malcontents along the route also jeered the family, holding national flags upside down in protest, much as they have in protest to the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Rutte. "There is clearly less cheering than in previous years," said Hans Jacobs, royal journalist - with a sense of understatement - in the broadcast on NPO 1. After the tour, the police reported that five demonstrators had been arrested, including for insulting. Six tractors have been seized.
"Let's not forget that it is very unusual to demonstrate on Prinsjesdag", says Jacquelien van Stekelenburg, professor of social change and conflict at VU University Amsterdam. "In general, this is precisely a day when the Orangists go out on the street. It is really an Orange party." Still, she is not surprised by the protest. "The relationship between certain groups and the government is so tense that it is not surprising that they also make their voices heard on Prinsjesdag.
According to Jacquelien van Stekelenburg, the fact that the demonstrators seem to be aiming directly at Willem-Alexander with raised middle finger and calling "traitors" does not automatically mean that they are against the king. "I think they see him more as representing the politicians they're so mad at."
The King delivered on a speech at the new session of parliament opening: ‘It is a paradox that in a period of economic growth and low unemployment, households face a cost-of-living crisis and poverty is on the rise. It is a paradox that people in a free country like ours feel unable to express their opinions for fear of hostile reactions or even threats. And it is concerning that, in a mature democracy such as ours, people are losing faith in the problem-solving power of government and politics.’
