Karma: Proposal to open negotiations on imposing new import tariffs on Cambodia's export goods

In response to His Excellency’s announcement on 2 April 2025, to impose 49% import tax on Cambodian goods from 9 April 2025, Cambodia would like to open negotiations with His Excellency’s government as soon as possible and kindly request His Excellency’s Government to extend the implementation of the new import tax rate.
I would like to inform His Excellency also that the highest import tax rate that Cambodia is currently implementing is generally only 35%. With the aim of demonstrating goodwill and in the spirit of strengthening our bilateral trade relations, Cambodia is committed to boosting U.S. imports with the immediate reduction of 19 import tax rates from a maximum rate of 35% to 5%.
In this spirit, I have assigned my Secretary of Commerce to liaise with His Excellency's US Trade Representative to carry out this task.
Cambodia is highly committed to continuing constructive and fruitful dialogue with the US government in order to further deepen the trade relationship between our two countries, meaning that both our nations and our people can benefit from this important trade relationship.
