Available Today : Outcome report of UN human rights review of Thailand (รายงานผลการประชุมทบทวนสิทธิมนุษยชนของประเทศไทย)

On 11 May 2016, the UN Human Rights Council reviewed Thailand’s human rights record. During the review 103 States took the floor and offered 249 recommendations. Today, the Government of Thailand accepted 181 of the recommendations. For the remaining 68 recommendations, Thailand asked for more time to engage in public consultation at the national level.

The recommendations that Thailand accepted: ratification of OP-CAT and convention on disappearances; ensuring public debate on the draft Constitution; adoption of the Anti-Torture and Anti-Disappearance Act; full respect to freedom of expression and opinion and press freedom; women’s participation in public and political decision making; and improving access to health, education and social welfare.

The recommendations that the Thai Government wants to further review are:

Repealing orders of the National Council for Peace and Order that are inconsistent with international human rights standards; 

Abolishing the death penalty; 

Ending the practice of forced detention of dissenters in the so-called “re-education camps”; 

Ending the prosecution of civilians in military courts; and giving legal status to refugees and asylum seekers.

เฟซบุ๊ก สำนักงานข้าหลวงใหญ่เพื่อสิทธิมนุษยชนแห่งสหประชาชาติ ประจำภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ รายงานผลการประชุมทบทวนสิทธิมนุษยชนของประเทศไทย ที่นครเจนีวา สมาพันธรัฐสวิส เมื่อวันที่ 11 พฤษภาคม ว่า ระหว่างการประชุม ซึ่งมีรัฐภาคีเข้าร่วม 103 ประเทศ โดยชาติสมาชิกเสนอแนะข้อปรับปรุงแก่คณะผู้แทนของไทย 249 ข้อ

โดยผู้แทนของประเทศไทย ที่เข้าร่วมชี้แจง ประกาศยอมรับข้อเสนอแนะ 181 ข้อ ส่วนอีก 68 ข้อ ขอนำกลับมาหารือภายในประเทศอีกครั้ง เช่น การยกเลิกคำสั่ง คสช. ที่ขัดแย้งกับมาตรฐานสากลด้านสิทธิมนุษยชน, ยุติการควบคุมตัวผู้เห็นต่างปรับทัศนคติ, ยุติการตัดสินลงโทษพลเรือนในศาลทหาร,ยกเลิกโทษประหาร และให้สถานะผู้ลี้ภัยแก่ผู้แสวงหาที่พักพิง
