The sad thing is that the majority of Thai and Cambodian people are ready to believe without an iota of doubt in whatever their army and government tell them—that the other side shot first yesterday.
If you were neither Thai nor Cambodian, you would likely try to consider evidence from both sides. But when nationalism blinds you, you are ready to believe only the information from the Thai side, simply because you were born Thai, or you are ready to believe only the information from the Khmer side, just because you happen to be born Cambodian.
It's like watching two versions of the same film about the incident and you chose only to believe in one version because the director and producer are your countrymen.
(Two foreign examples that come to my mind is how the so-called leading quality press in the US bought into the "weapon of mass destruction" narrative and supported the Gulf War. More recently, deeply biased views towards Trump led to the doctoring of Trump's speech at the BBC which was supposedly the gold standard in impartiality, and the subsequent resignations of top BBC executives as a result. Do not just try to see what you wanted to see. And ultra-nationalists see what ultra-nationalism wanted them to see.)
P.S. I call on AOT to in both countries to go to the site and find out the facts and report to the public.
