US AI company Anthropic is pressured by the Pentagon. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has given the AI company an ultimatum until Friday to agree to give the military full access to the company's AI models – OR face cuts of up to $200 million in government contracts. Hegseth reportedly demanded that the AI company drop its safeguards. Anthropic, a breakaway from OpenAI, has restricted the military use of its models, including autonomous lethal targeting and surveillance. The Pentagon is considering invoking the Defense Production Act, which could force Anthropic to allow unrestricted military use on national security grounds.
