Once again the Trump administration’s shoot first ask questions later policies have backfired. The 300 South Korean workers rounded up and dragged out of the Hyundai factory in chains, were highly skilled workers who came to the U.S. to train Americans how to run the plant and operate equipment once construction was completed. It was only after they were terrorized and humiliated that Trump realized their knowledge was essential to getting the factory up and running and training American workers was essential to its continued operation. Trump then tried and failed to convince them to stay. South Korean foreign minister Cho Hyun stated that the workers “came to the U.S. to transfer technology and knowhow to contribute to the Trump administration’s efforts to revive the U.S. manufacturing industry.” When asked to stay Cho explained that the workers were “hurt and shocked,” and they all declined. Another check in the failure column for Donald Trump.
